Dr. Mak took over Modern Dentistry of Frederick in October 2024 with one goal: to create her own practice where patients feel genuinely cared for. With over two decades of experience, she combines advanced techniques with a warm, unhurried approach that puts even the most anxious patients at ease.
Dr. Raheleh Makhmalbaf (known as Dr. Mak) received her undergraduate degree from Georgia State University and earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Boston Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2009. A resident of Frederick since 2012, she has established herself as a dedicated practitioner of general and advanced dentistry. She is an active member of the American Dental Association and the prestigious Seattle Study Club.

Shelley is the organized force behind our schedule, making sure every ‘t’ is crossed and every ‘i’ is dotted. With years of experience as a dental office manager, she brings exceptional attention to detail to her role as patient coordinator. Shelley works diligently to keep appointments running smoothly, ensuring each patient’s visit is timely, efficient, and seamlessly coordinated.
Morgan works closely with Dr. Mak, supporting both the administrative side of the office and patient accounts. She plays a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes, ensuring operations are efficient and organized. Always ready to assist, Morgan is here to help make each patient’s experience seamless and stress-free.
Sarah, Dr. Mak’s lead dental assistant, is known for her contagious laugh and warm, welcoming presence. She brings a high level of professionalism to every appointment while making patients feel completely at ease from the moment they arrive. Whether assisting during procedures or answering questions, Sarah ensures each patient feels comfortable, cared for, and confident in their treatment.
Peggy is a trusted dental assistant whom many patients have known for over 20 years. Her experience and familiarity bring a comforting sense of continuity to the practice. While she continues to see patients, Peggy also supports the clinical team in keeping everything running smoothly.
Erica is a skilled dental hygienist who is dedicated to making every patient feel comfortable and at ease. With her calm demeanor and exceptional attention to detail, she creates a relaxing environment that helps patients feel confident and well cared for throughout their visit.
Kathy has been a dental hygienist in the area for over 40 years, including many years working alongside Dr. Mak. She brings a wealth of experience and deep knowledge to every patient interaction. Kathy is highly skilled and takes the time to ensure each patient fully understands their oral health, empowering them to make confident decisions about their care.
